The Song of the Unloved

The first song I wrote after joining college. Wrote this in 2005, lying on the water tank near my college entrance, after seeing some unfortunate souls on the way back from dinner in the nearby town.
(There are still a few rough edges which I don’t have the time to iron out.. but will do in the near future :))

=== The Song of the Unloved ===
You don’t ever get what you want,
You don’t ever get to know the ones you love.
You don’t understand what’s going on,
You don’t ever get what you need the most.

This is the song of the unloved,
The song of the lost,
The songs of the fallen,
Whose paths I have crossed.

As I lay down, facing the skies,
As I lay down, facing the stars,
As I lay down, facing the moon,
As I lay down, knowing my time will come soon,

I’ve got these shattered dreams,
Which still prick my heart;
I’ve got these broken hopes,
Which still make me stumble.

It’s hard to laugh,
When you’ve got nothing by your side.
It’s hard to smile,
When you’re walking empty-handed.
It’s hard to do what you’ve never done before,
It’s hard to crawl, and beg for a morsel.

Do you know?

1 Guitar – 3 Overlaid tracks, and 1 Vocal track.
Performed and recorded today 🙂

Do you know I come,
I come from a place where,
The winds stand still,
And the trees all run?

I tried to walk away,
But I just got closer.
I tried getting closer,
But I got pushed farther.

As love, as love rained down,
I saw, I saw my nightmares drown.
As I held, as I held your hand,
I hold on to love, that one last strand.

Do you know I come,
I come from a place where,
The days are dark,
And the nights are darker?

As I closed my eyes,
The light got brighter.
I opened them up,
Darkness was everywhere.

As love, as love rained down,
I saw, I saw my nightmares drown.
As I hold, as I hold your hand,
I hold on to life, and make my final stand.
